Bigwin Island Golf Club Hole #18

Bigwin Island Golf Club Par 5 18th hole

Nice way to finish your round at Bigwin Island. The 18th hole gives you a good chance to finish with a birdie. If you can keep your drive down the right side of the fairway to shorten your approach into this par 5. Water is in play all the way down the right side as well as in your mind as you play this hole.

We also had spectators to the left of the tee! There are a lot of deer on this course, either that or these 2 kept following us?

The view from the tee is almost as good as the 6th hole, almost!

Bigwin Island Golf Club - Muskoka Golf

I had the pleasure of playing Bigwin Island Golf Club this spring with my father and this is the most scenic golf course I have played in Ontario.

The 6th Hole "The Lookout" at Bigwin is the one that most players talk about after playing there for its spectacular view and the hang time on your tee shot!

Not a tough hole but a lot of fun to play!

What they have to say:

Without a doubt the most spectacular view on the course is from the back tee on the 6th hole. To the east lies the breathtaking view over the treetops of the 6th fairway to a cluster of islands rising out of the lake. To the west through the trees, lies a glimpse of the clubhouse with its elegant reflection shimmering in the quiet waters of the protected bay. The tee shot provides a lot of "hang time" on this 462 yard par four, as the ball plummets to the fairway over 100 feet below...

The New Dragon's Fire Golf Club, Carlisle, Ontario

Dragon's Fire Golf Club, Hole #15 Par 4 292 yards.

You either love 'em or hate 'em, the driveable Par 4!

I love them, at least the ones I can still get to. The new Dragon's Fire Golf Club was designed by Boris Danoff who also designed John Daly's Thundering Waters Golf Club in Niagara Falls, Ontario is set to open June 9th. I had a chance to preview this course prior to the opening and it is very good.

The Par 4, 15th hole was one of my favourites maybe because I drove it pin high on the left fringe! But I love trying to drive a par 4 and at 292 from the blue tees this downhill tee shot is inviting (at least to me) even though it is well guarded by bunkers.

If you are in the area give this new course a try, conditions are not perfect yet but it will be a must play very soon with 18 hole fees from $55 and a replay rate of only $35!

Bigwin Island #6

Bigwin Island Golf Club #6
For years I have heard of what a good time the whole experience is at Bigwin Island but have never made it up there to play it. Well I am finally going to play it this spring which I am very excited about but the best part is that I am going up to play with my father. He is the person that introduced me to this great game at the age of 8 and as he would say "taught me everything I know!" As life gets in the way we do not get a chance to play together very often anymore so this will be the round of the year for me.

So as the golf season starts in Ontario I thought why not feature a hole from Bigwin Island Golf Club.

The Par 4, 6th hole is the best view on the course and most will say one of the best golf views in Ontario, with a long hangtime on the tee shot. Looks like fun to me!

Olympic View Golf Club, Victoria, BC

I have a friend that worked at Olympic View Golf Club as a kid and said it was a great place to be. Now I see part of the reason the 17th hole is the signature hole at Olympic View and looks Great!

Hole 17 at Olympic View Golf Club
This hole is the most photographed hole on the course because of its Japanese garden and majestic 60-foot waterfall directly behind the green. A tee shot down the middle will put you in ideal position to go for the pin on your second shot. If you are going to miss, miss your shot to the right because a water hazard guards the left.

Dragon's Fire Golf Club, Carlisle, Ontario

Dragon's Fire Golf Club

Former co-owner of Royal Ontario Golf Club, Bryan DeCunha, has built a new course just outside of Burlington, Ontario Dragon's Fires Golf Club, set to open this May 2008. The course was designed by architect Bo Danoff, who also did the Niagara course Thundering Waters. I have some early pics from the course and in speaking with someone close to the project this is going to a championship golf course that will be very playable and affordable with 18 hole fees ranging from $55-$74.
Looks good so far, hopefully there are enough golfers to support it!

Tobiano Golf, Kamloops BC

Now this is a great piece land for a golf course. Seems that Tobiano Golf is getting a lot of buzz out west and after looking at some of the picks you can see why.

What they have to say about the course;

"Tobiano Golf offers a unique ranch style golf experience. Our 18 hole course includes vistas of the rugged Columbia and Cascade Mountains framed by an expansive view of Kamloops Lake.
Unlike most golf communities where the course is planned around the homes, Tobiano sits softly on the land, following the natural ebb and flow of the terrain, with all other development strategically positioned around the fairways. The result is a course that runs sequentially and without interruption, creating an exceptional golf experience.
With a stunning view of Kamloops Lake from every hole, the front nine features desert dunes and lush green fairways while the back nine offers open rangeland, ravines, and bluffs. White silica sand bunkers – a recent McBroom design innovation – and scenic gullies define and bisect many of the holes."
